Team Rules and other things to know.

Team Rules:

1- No throwing clubs or other acts of poor sportsmanship. Penalty is suspension of a minimum of one match.

2- Proper attire is Team Shirt, Khaki pants or shorts, Golf Shoes. Shirt tail must be tucked in at all times for men's shirt anytime we are at the golf course or in public. No caps worn backwards, we expect you to look and act like good representatives of Halifax Academy at all times.

3- Act respectfully to all coaches and representatives of the hosting golf course. Yes Sir is a key word.

4- Make sure you count your score correctly. Two complaints from other coaches and you will have to sit out the next match. Also count your opponents score properly. Every stroke counts until we get to 5 over par on any given golf hole.

5- Take care of the golf course. Rake the traps after use and repair your ball marks on greens.

6- You must have golf shoes and be properly dressed to play in a golf match.

7- Never forget you are representing Halifax Academy, yourself, your teammates, your parents, and me your coach with your actions. We not only expect good behavior but we required it. We are the face of Halifax Academy, many parents judge our school by the golf teams actions since it is the only sport with face to face interaction.

8- Before leaving the course, as a team we go in and thank the Golf Professional for letting us play their course. It is very expensive to host a high school golf event. If you have the opportunity, please thank the Host Coach on your own for hosting a nice event.

9- Practice Rule: Anyone missing practice without notifying me at least by 2:00pm the day of practice will not be allowed to play in the next match. It is each players responsibility to be at practice or to have a good reason why you are not there. This is the Volleyball Rule used by Ms. Tickle. Everyone's time is important and it is a common courtesy to let the coach know if you are not going to be here to practice. 586-4066 Pro Shop, 308-2863 Cell.

Things you might need to know.

1- Make sure you have all your clubs and shoes etc. and get to the car as quickly as possible after dismissal time. We do not have time to waste.

2- We usually eat out twice once before the match and usually after the match. Bring enough money to take care of yourself.

3- It is each players responsibility to make sure they have a ride to and from each match. Players are not allowed to drive.

4- Each player will keep his own score and the score of one other player in his group. You must add each nine holes and total 18 before you turn your card in at the scorer's table to a coach. You must also sign your card.

5- If you do not know what rule to follow you need announce your intentions and then play two balls the original and the provisional and get a ruling at your first opportunity from a coach as to which ball should be counted as your score.

6- Who plays and playing positions on the team is simply the coach's call. The 3 low scores from the last match will automatically qualify. the 4th low score will qualify if it is 85 or below. The rest will qualify for the other spots weekly. In case of a tie it is the coaches option. If someone who qualified for a match cannot play it is the coach's call on who plays.

7- Matches are 6 players playing two 9 hole matches and taking the 4 best scores from each team for each 9. In general in the 320's will get you to the states most years. Around 300 most of the time gives you a great chance to win the state championship. The top 8 teams in the state get to play for the 2A State Championship in Golf. Last season Parrott Academy won the State Championship.

8- Last season we had 4 of the top 8 teams in the state come from the EPIC conference. Chris Freeman made All State.

I will add additional thoughts as I think of them, so check back to this blog for updates.
