Hi Guys and Girls,
1- First off, making it to the states in 2A Golf was wonderful fun. The whole team should be proud of itself.
2- Having Chris make the All State Team was equally wonderful. I can think of no player more deserving than Chris. Basically he has been a great player for us for a long time.
3- We will leave school Wednesday the 20th at 10:30. We will eat some where, probably around Gold Rock.
4- We tee off at 1:00. I will post the rules for the game when we arrive. We will pay our golf fees out of our golf account.
5- We will leave the Golf Course and go to Ichabon Japanese Steak House for dinner. It is optional and Dutch Treat.
6- This will be the last official function for this years 2009 Viking Golf Team, thank you guys and girls for a great season. Special thanks are due for the Senior Class for the leadership they have provided to this team.
7- The Athletic Banquet will be Friday May 29th. Dinner at 6:00, Presentations at 7:00.
8- I need all the Golf Team Golf bags turned in to me Pronto after Wednesday. Basically they are $1200.00 of school property and if we keep them in good shape it will be money we will not have to raise for the future.
9- The Golf Shirts are yours to keep. Players returning next year and in the future please wash your shirts and keep them in good shape for next season. It helps to have more than one shirt in the closest and I will try to match what we have again next season. I think our green shirts make us stand out on the course. Its a great golf color. Actually it is what they call Augusta Green when you buy that color at The Master's. We call it Viking Golf Green.
10- Please wear your Viking Golf Green Nike Golf Shirts when we go to Fords Colony to play Wednesday. We should be there in time to warm up a little if you want to. I do not think our fee includes the price of Range balls though. Thanks!
11- I will E-mail Mr. Wiggs and ask if individual student drivers will be allowed to drive to Rocky Mount if they wish. Jay Strickland is going to drive his suburban, He and TW Chambliss are both planning to go and play with us.

Monday April 20, 2009 Practice Info.
Hi Guys and Girls,
Monday we will end practice at 5:00pm. I have a school board meeting and I will have to leave early. Please make arrangements with your ride.
Tuesday we will play a match in Raleigh at North Ridge CC. Be prepared for the possibility of wet weather.
Hope you all had a Great Easter.
Thought: We should always strive to get the most out of our ability on any given day, but we should never forget we need to work hard to make sure our ability level continues to grow so our best is always getting better.

Team and Individual Index.
Hi Guys and Girls,
1- Our team index for the year not counting the two 9 hole throw outs thru our last match at Prestonwood is 7.52. Speculation by our conference coaches is we need to be in the 6's to qualify for the states this year. That is one stroke per player per 9 holes. I know we out perform that by a bunch if we play like we are capable.
2- Individual Index's:
C. Freeman 2.72
L. Lucas 8.92
A. Crawley 9.46
M. Grant 11.49
C. Rightmyer 11.70
H. Strickland 13.33
3- We still have a shot at the states but we need to play some of our best golf the rest of the way. Its all a matter of how bad do we want it.
4- Our current record in the EPIC is 2 - 6. Big time golf is still alive and well in our conference. If we want to move up we need to play better. Hope you guys are taking some time over Easter Break to work on getting better. There is no substitute for playing alot of golf if you want to play your best.
5- BTW, the top 10 golfers average score wise in conference matches makes All Conference. Some of you guys if you play hard the rest of the season might have a shot this year. It is the top 10 so make the best of your opportunity.
6- The last three matches are at North Ridge in Raleigh, at home and at Kinston CC. We can play well on all three of those courses.
Thought for the Day: "Kites don't rise against the wind". R. Wms, UNC. Golf related it means if you are trying to invent an unorthodox way of swinging the club chances are your kite will not rise. In school if you take a antagonistic attitude towards teachers and school chances are your kites will not rise. Get with the program no matter what you do and get the most out of your chances and your ability.
Have a safe and Happy Easter.

Tuesday Match @ Cary Christian.
Hi Guys and Girls,
Departure time for our Tuesday Match with Cary at Prestonwood is 9:35. We are cutting it very close time wise. At Benvenue we hardly had time to hit range balls and were the last team at the course. So have all your stuff ready and be ready to leave the school by 9:40am.
Remember to have your golf shoes, be clean shaven (boys), have your clubs, money to eat twice before coming home and warm clothes. The high temperature is around 53 according to the Sunday weather.
Do not forget, our mission is to finish this season no lower than second place in the conference. We just need to play like we practice and we can do it.
Thought: The difference between winners and losers is simple. Winners are driven by their dream of accomplishing a goal. Not simply a dream but a passion that burns in their minds and pushes them everyday until they reach their goal. Bob Rotella, Golf Psychologist to about half the PGA and LPGA Tours.

4-2-09 Practice and Notes
Hi Guys and Girls,
Some Notes:
1- We missed Luke's solid game in the RMA hosted conference match. With him I have no doubt even with playing poorly we would have beaten St. Davids and Cary.
2- Our Team record is now 4 wins and 4 losses.
3- I expect us to take the runner up trophy in the EPIC this year. We can and should beat every team in the conference with the possible exception of Parrott every time out. Focus.
4- Today in practice Chris was out but we still had our best practice of the season. Clay shot 37, Luke 38, Drew(MacDaddy) 39 and Holden(Giggles) 39 and Mark a solid 43. The 4 best scores doubled would be 306. Exactly what APA shot Monday to win the match at Benvenue.
5- We have a great opportunity if we work hard to claim the runner up spot in the EPIC this season. That would be quite and accomplishment. I have little doubt that Parrott will win Coach Pollard another state championship to add to his trophy case. Lets us take care of business and beat the other teams every time the rest of this year. That would be fun!
6- Yesterday on the Practice Range I thought we hit the ball better than we have this entire season. Lets keep it up, take pride in what you do and lets do our best everyday in practice.
7- This team needs leaders with an S, not just one leader. We need each player on this team to take ownership of making each and everyday a step toward us playing our best the rest of this year. Do your part to make it happen. It is going to take every player pushing to do their best.
Thought of the Day: "No one ever drowned in their own sweat. Lets take pride in knowing that no team has outworked us." Roy Williams, UNC Basketball Coach.
Have a good and safe weekend, the weather is going to be nice. Get out and work on your game. Also unless the forecast changes Tuesday is going to be a typical Viking Golf day. 51 degrees and cloudy is the present prediction. Make sure you have the clothes you need to play your best in the cold. Be Prepared. Take no prisoners.

RMA on Monday!
Hi Guys and Girls,
Our first conference match is Monday @ Benvenue Country Club in Rocky Mount. Right now we have the second best Team Index in our conference. Parrott of course is #1. We are ranked #6 in the state as of now.
1- Departure time is still 10:30am. Have your stuff ready to leave and lets pull out by 10:35am. Our time to eat is a short.
2- We will eat at IHOP besides Lowe's.
3- Bring your A game. It should be a beautiful day to play golf.
4- Green shirts, Khaki pants, Golf Shoes, Clean shaven. Look Sharp and Play Sharp.
Thought for the Day: Nothing significant was ever accomplished without passion. Jesus was a passionate man, he died for us because he loved his Father and us passionately. We should apply the same passion we have for Jesus and he has for us to school our family and to golf. Thats the way to have great accomplishment.

Big Win for Viking Golfers vs. RRHS.
Hi Guys and Girls,
A great day for our 2009 Viking Golf Team. Some highlights:
1- We handed RRHS their first defeat of the year 319 to 321.
2- Chris Freeman was medalist with a 72. Andrew Crawley shot his career best 79. Mark Grant had his career best 86.
3- Our 18 hole score when we take the best 9's like NCIHSAA rules require we have a team score of 316. I am not sure how this score stacks up with our best ever scores but it is a good one.
4- Scores for our players: Chris 36-36=72 Andrew 39-40=79 Luke 40-43=83 Mark 47-39=86 Holden 48-40=88 Clay 46-46=92 Kimberly 50 Victoria 55.
5- Be ready to leave ASAP Monday. We will be a little short of time if we mess around school to long. We need to pull out probably about 10:35. Try and get your clubs and shoes where you can get your hands on them quickly or if possible load them up the night before.
Congratulations on a great day Viking Golfer's.
Thought of the Day: "Fill your mind with good thoughts for you will never go any higher than you think." Benjamin Disraeli British Prime Minster and Intellectural 19th Century.
How does this relate to your Golf Game? If you think you are going to do poorly you probably will. Think good confident but realistic thoughts when you play. You will never be any better than you envision yourself. Think positive, relax and enjoy the game.
PS- It also relates to school and you as a person. Think about it.

Monday Practice Cancelled.
Hi Guys and Girls,
Monday's Golf Practice has been cancelled due to inclement weather. The Golf Course is so wet if it stops raining I doubt it will be decent to play. Also, I need to leave early for a School Board Meeting tonight so cancelling practice seems the logical thing to do.
I had Mrs. Wray make the announcement at school. Practice Tuesday at the normal time.

Monday Practice 3/16/09 Doubtful!
Hi Guys and Girls,
Practice for Monday is looking very doubtful. I was going to have to leave by 5:15 or 5:30pm at the latest in order to be present for our monthly School Board of Trustee meeting. I will wait until Monday to make the call but be cognizant that practice might be called off. If we do not practice we will plan to practice Tuesday.

Results of RRHS golf match.
Hi Guys and Girls,
1- We lost to RRHS and beat Rocky Mount HS and Southwest Edgecombe.
2- I guess the good news should be our team record is 2 and 1, but we played much worse than we have played all year in practice. About 30 strokes worse.
3- It was another typical Viking Golf Team first day as far as the weather and playing an important match. Cold, overcast, dreary. That an the fact we did not play well just about sums it up.
4- We really miss the abilities of Corey and Matthew but we can still be a good team. We just need to play closer to our abilities. Don't lose faith, it is a long season, we have talent on this team, we just need to step it up.
5- Individual scores:
Chris: 79
Luke: 92
Mark: 95
Holden: 97
Andrew: 102
Clay: 108
Kimberly: 55 back 9 exhibition match
Victoria: 56 back 9 exhibition match
Team score: 361
See you at practice Monday weather permitting.
NOTE: I WILL NEED TO LEAVE PRACTICE MONDAY BY 5;30PM TO ATTEND A SCHOOL BOARD MEETING. PLEASE INFORM YOUR PARENTS TO BE THERE BY 5:20 OR SO. THANKS.

Monday Practice 3/9/09
Hi Guys and Girls,
Thought of the day: Hard work doesn't guarantee success but without it you and your team don't stand a chance. Roy Williams UNC Coach
1- Hoodies due in around Friday.
2- Hope our Shirts will be embroidered before Thursday.
3- Very hopeful the cold front and rain will hold off so we can have good weather for our first match vs. RRNC @ Chocoyotte Thursday.
4- Dismissal time Thursday is 11:45 provided we play.
5- Monday Practice: Not good enough to make it into the top 8 in the states!
Chris 38, Luke 42, Drew, 42, Holden 48, Clay 48, Mark 48. Doubled that equals 340. We need to average under 330 based on past years to be in the hunt for the top 8 in the state. Under 325 would be alot better. Kimberly and Victoria out sick.
6- The conference could be wide open this season. Parrott will be tough as always but the other 4 schools have some big holes to fill. Of course with our losses to academics we have some holes to fill now also. Still we should match up well with all the other schools if we play well. So practice every chance you get.
7- Work on improving your game every chance you get, we have a shot at being a good team but it is not going to happen if you only work on your game at golf practice. Step it up.
8- I will allow all players that would like to play a free practice round at Chocoyotte Wednesday after school to be excused from normal practice in order to take advantage of the kind offer from Susan Smith. It would be helpful for those that are not as familiar with that course for the match Thursday. Please inform me Tuesday at practice of your intentions. I will hold practice at MHCC as usual for those that need individual instruction with their swings.
9- Remember, it is not who we beat that is important even though we want to win every match. What we shoot is how you make it to the states in golf. Once you make it to the states whoever plays the best as a team for that 2 day tournament will be the 2A State Champions for 2009. Stay focused on making it there.
10- As always, school and grades come first. Anytime you need to miss practice to study for a big test or receive academic help I will allow it. Please let me know as far in advance as possible so I can plan practice for that day.
11- Two new rules for 2009, no facial hair at golf matches and you must have regulation golf shoes. Plus, keep your shirttails tucked in. Remember the past golf teams have done a wonderful job of playing golf and representing our school. Keep it up, its important.

About Wednesday Golf Practice.
Hi Guys and Girls,
1- We will practice Wednesday starting at 4:30 sharp. I got the word about school lasting until 4:00pm the rest of the week. Wednesday will be range day but shorter. Practice will end at 6:00 pm.
2- Our boy's shirts are in. They still need to be embroidered.
3- We have our first golf match coming up very soon. Get your golf game in shape. We need every score to be a good one this year. The last couple of seasons we have probably cost ourselves placing in the state tournament by getting off to weak starts and having to count that bad score in our final index we sent in to the state.
4- I have not gotten our first match approved yet but I do not expect any problem.
5- Look down to older posts to see our schedule as it stands now. We have had one change with St Davids day.

No Tuesday Golf Practice!
Hi Guys and Ladies;
1- I went out on the golf course late today and I don't see anyway possible we can practice Tuesday. Golf course's are always the last to loose its snow due to being mowed so close to the ground. I do hope the practice range will be playable for Wednesday. I will post new information tomorrow night.

Snow!
Hi Guys and Girls'
1- Obviously no practice for Monday and very doubtful for Tuesday.
2- Make sure you get your physicals in to Coach Herman.
3- I have not had the chance to talk to Northeast Academy about a match with them.
4- RRHS wants to come to our course and play but cannot play until after school. I have to talk with Coach Herman and Mr. Wiggs about it. Could work out to be a 9 hole match.
